The Basque engineering firm LKS has won the contract to draw up the project for the bridge which will join Zorrotzaurre and San Ignacio
The Zorrotzaurre Management Commission has, provisionally, awarded the Project design for the new bridge which will join Zorrotzaurre to San Ignacio to the Basque firm LKS Ingeniería S. Coop. The firm tendered an offer for 121,100 Euros (ex VAT) for the work specified in the call for tenders and which must be completed within 6 months. The drawing up of the project and the construction of the bridge will be financed by the Basque Government and managed by the Management Commission. Ibon Areso, the new Chairman of the Zorrotzaurre Management Commission
In the meeting of the Zorrotzaurre Management Commission held this morning, Ibon Areso was named as the new chairman. Areso, until now a board member, occupies the position left vacant after the death, last March 20th, of the previous Mayor of Bilbao, Iñaki Azkuna. As a consequence of the naming of the new chairman, Eduardo María Maiz, the councillor responsible for Urbanism in the Bilbao City Council was appointed to the board of the Commission there by completing the municipal quota on the board.

The Works to open up the Deusto canal began today
This morning the works to completely open up the Deusto Canal and to build the new bridge, which will join Deusto to Zorrotzaurre, began. The two operations, which will be carried out simultaneously over a period of 16 months, are to be undertaken by the consortium formed by Exbasa, Viuda de Sáinz, Balzola and Urssa. Management of the works is to be carried out by TYPSA (the building Project designer) and Dinam Ingeniería. The estimated cost of the works stands at 21.5 million Euros (VAT included).
