Yesterday, the Basque Government cabinet approved a multiannual (2015-2020) sum of 8.94 million Euros to finance the urban renewal works of the  Zorrotzaurre Execution Unit 1 of the Integrated Action Plan 1. The investment is for the first phase of the operation over an area of 389,654 square metres at both ends of the future island and on the right bank of the Deusto Canal.

The municipal authority has approved the definitive Zorrotzaurre Plot Reorganisation Project for the Execution Unit 1 of the Integrated Action Plan for Zorrotzaurre. Initially approved on January 14th, 2014, the Project has gone through two periods of public consultation, which have led to 36 modifications being accepted. The allegations presented and accepted, referred to the value of certain compensations due, the ownership of certain plots and the surface area of some of the plots. After this definitive approval, the new plots will be registered in the Official Property Register.

The Bilbao City Council decided yesterday to extend the period for the finalising of the works to open up the Deusto Canal by three months with a new termination date expected to be March 2017. Council members explained that the delay is due to the establishment of a new safer, environmentally sound and sustainable excavation plan The land involved will now be excavated in three phases instead of in one operation with the construction of a steel wall to delimit the area to avoid water filtering into the extraction zone, which will be carried out by floating dredgers.
