Surbisa extends the period for home renovation grants in Zorrotzaurre
The City Hall-owned company, Surbisa, which promotes urban renovation in the buildings of Bilbao has announced, today, in the Official Bizkaia Gazette, an extension until December 31st 2017 for the concession of grants for the renovation of residential buildings in Zorrotzaurre. This grant programme has been operative without a break since 2009.

The Frank Gehry Bridge opens to traffic
The Frank Gehry Bridge was opened today with the authorisation of use by motor vehicles. Until now, and since its inauguration on September 14th 2015, only pedestrians were allowed to use the bridge. The authorisation for motor vehicles has been brought forward due to the changes in the Deusto canal excavation timetable. This change has led to the closing, for both pedestrians and motor traffic, of the road that connected Zorrotzaurre with the Euskalduna roundabout.

The book ‘The Island that Never Was. An English castaway in Bilbao’ published
The Publisher ZAWP has just launched the book, ‘The Island that Never Was. An English castaway in Bilbao’ by Robert Alcock, biologist and neighbour of Zorrotzaurre. The book is a personal diary of 15 years on the península that is soon to become an island and which is mainly undiscovered, even by people from Bilbao. The book contains a varied cast of different characters, Bertold Brecht and Zaha Hadid, lizards and kingfishers, Gargantua the child-swallowing float from fiestas and the thousand-eyed beast, squatters and graffiti artists, speculators and artists. Imaginary future alternatives for the quarter are also examined.
