Anniversary: It is twelve years since the initial public presentation of the Zorrotzaurre Master Plan
12 years ago today, (October 29th, 2004) the press conference in Bilbao to present the Zorrotzaurre Master Plan took place. The document, drawn up by Zaha Hadid Architects, included as its most important innovation, the complete opening up of the Deusto canal, transforming the Zorrotzaurre península into an island and thereby guaranteeing a flood-free area. In parallel, and on that same day, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum opened a detailed exhibition on the Master Plan (models, photos, graphs, informative panels) that remained open, for one month until November 28th, to companies, neighbours of the area and the general public. The Zorrotzaurre Contracting Board has awarded the contract to draw up the project for the strengthening of the riverside quays on the Bilbao river estuary within the Zorrotzaurre Execution Unit 1. The winning company offered 90,508 euros (VAT included) to undertake the work and has a period of 4 months to deliver the project. 8 offers were presented after the call for tenders with a budget set at 102,850 euros (VAT included).

Bilbao City Council rescinds the contract for the opening up of the Deusto canal
The Bilbao City Council has rescinded the contract for the works to open up the Deusto canal held by the Temporary Consortium formed by Exvasa, Viuda de Sainz, Balzola and Urssa and awarded in February 2014 after the call for tenders and a favourable decision from the Legal Advice Commission of the Basque Country. The decision to rescind was taken due to the Temporary Consortium’s refusal to comply with the demand from the City Council to restart the Works that were stopped months earlier due to differences between the Consortium and the City over the cost of the contract.
