The Zorrotzaurre urban development project was present yesterday at the 1st Sustainable Week Forum that took place in the Bizkaia Aretoa in Bilbao. Among the speakers at the event was Pablo Otaola, the Director of the Zorrotzaurre Management Commission. In the Sustainable Week Forum, a number of experts with wide experience in sustainability presented a number of different reflexions and balances on the question of sustainability in Europe and highlighted the challenges we face in this field in the next few years. The programme ‘A punto con la 2’ shows a documentary report on the Zorrotzaurre project.
The programme ‘A punto con la 2’ on Spanish national TV, showed a report on the Zorrotzaurre urban renewal project in its section ‘Espacio vital’. The report was recorded on March 18th. The programme explained the reasons behind the project, the differential aspects of the project when compared to other renewal projects carried out in Bilbao in recent years, and also analysed the importance of ZAWP within the ‘while becoming’ urbanism that was decided on for the future island. Zaha Hadid, the architect who designed the Zorrotzaurre Master Plan dies
Victim of a heart attack, the 65 year-old iraqi-born British architect Zaha Hadid, died today in Miami. Zaha Hadid, Pritzker Prize winner in 2004 was the designer of, among many other prestigious works, the Zorrotzaurre Master Plan, both the 2004 original version and the review and up-date of 2007 which included the opening up of the Deusto canal to turn the Zorrotzaurre peninsula into an island. Her talent and creativity have been fundamental in the design of an integral and sustainable plan that converts a degraded part of Bilbao into a new quarter full of economic and social development possibilities.
