The Contract Award Board has finished demolition work on the facilitiesVicinayCadenas had on Zorrotzaurreand which had begun at the beginning of September. This thus concludes the last great demolition operation to be performed in phase one of the Zorrotzaurreproject. The demolition has been carried out on the VicinayCadenas installations except for the two office buildings forming part of the 19 conserved under the Special Plan to be devoted to new purposes: The former Banco de Bilbao archive and the old La Coromina paint factory. Today at 13:30, Deusto canal was opened, converting what had hitherto been a peninsula into an island. The canal opening ceremony was chaired by the Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, who was accompanied by the Head of the Regional Government Department of the Environment, Territorial Planning and Housing, Iñaki Arriola, amongst other eminent figures.

The Basque Government Council today authorised the construction of a residential building with 66 dwellings on Zorrotzaurre, aimed at the rental market at subsidised prices for persons under the age of 35 and preferably registered residents in Bilbao, for a maximum lease period of 5 years.
