MASTER PLAN
Open groups of buildings
What type of urban environment will the future residents of Zorrotzaurre enjoy?
One that favours the possibilities of open-air activities by maintaining itself open and accessible.
The groups of buildings that define the urban landscape are openly oriented towards the water, offering sunlight, views and a rich network of public pathways that integrate the diverse environments and leisure opportunities of the island.
In this way, Zorrotzaurre offers a new, urban typology differentiated from the Ensanche.
The centre of Bilbao has always offered residents a marvellous environment for walking to link the different points of our “interior” life.
Today, the activity of people along the riverside walks, suggests a new era, in which the residents look for a balance between café society and leisure activities.
The open nature of the groups of buildings of the Zorrotzaurre Plan seeks to achieve that balance by promoting easy accessibility between an organised diversity of public and private spaces.
The Plan emphasises the rôle that these diverse spaces are going to play by actively linking housing, offices and riverside parks.
