20/03/2015

The parts of the mainstructure of the Frank Gehry bridge have been placed on their supports on thefuture banks of the opened-up canal. The parts were manufactured by theengineering firm URSSA in Alava and were transported to Bilbao to be installed.

With the supportsbuilt, the 20 pre-fabricated pieces between 14 and 20 metres long that make upthe bridge can be put in place. These pieces are provisionally placed on thesupports, which will be withdrawn once the definitive braces are in place.

The Frank Gehrybridge, designed by the engineering firm Arenas y Asociados, is 75 metres longand 28 metres wide. It is being built before the opening of the Deusto canal tofacilitate its construction and to ensure that the future island is neverwithout a connection.

Over the next fewmonths, the piping and cabling necessary for activity on the island(electricity, telephone, water, and gas) will be installed on the underside ofthe bridge.

On the structure, there will be a two-way road with two lanes in each direction and two pedestrianpavements (one compatible with a bicycle path). Two wind and noise deflectingpanels and a bench will be installed along the length of the bridge.
