Current state of the Zorrotzaurre housing renovations

15/02/2017

Surbisa (the municipally-owned company for the promotion of housing renovations in Bilbao) has issued an update on the housing renovations underway in Zorrotzaurre.

42 out of 47 existing residential buildings were originally considered for renovation. Of those 42, renovations have finished in 24 buildings, 5 are fully underway and 13 more are at the planning or permission stage.

The renovations have been significant as many of the buildings are over one hundred years old and very little or no maintenance had been carried out for decades. Some buildings required structural reinforcement of pillars and thermal insulation and other energy-saving improvements have been installed at Surbisa’s suggestion. The renovations have improved accessibility and lifts have been installed in blocks over 3 stories high.

Residents have had access to important grants to undertake the renovations provided by the City Council (3 million euros), the Basque Government (0.8 million euros) and the Management Commission (2.25 million euros).
