04/05/2017

The councillor for the Mayoral Matters, Economic Development and Good Governance of the Bilbao City Council, Gotzone Sagardui, and representatives of the EU Urban Innovation Actions (UIA) programme have signed the grant agreement for the execution of the As Fabrik project, a digital business incubator to be located in Zorrotzaurre.

As Fabrik will work, through training and entrepreneurship, to improve local businesses’ competitiveness and to consolidate Zorrotzaurre as a system innovator of reference in the area of advanced services for industry 4.0 and the digital economy.

The investment budget for the project is 5.8 million euros of which the European Union will finance 80%.

As Fabrik will occupy one of the currently empty industrial buildings (presumably the Beta 2 building) to be retained and renovated under the aegis of the Zorrotzaurre project.

The founding partners in As Fabrik are: Bilbao City Hall, Corporación Mondragón, MIK (Mondragon Innovation & Knowledge), Gaia, Orkestra, Eiken, Idom and Mondragón Unibertsitatea (Engineering and Business Studies Faculties).

Bilbao City Council expects As Fabrik to open its doors within 3 years.
