The Mayor of Bilbao has presented the Zorrotzaurre ‘Island of Talent’ project, in the most important world forum of local and regional governments

Last week the Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, took part in the World Council of United Cities and Local and Regional Governments, which is considered the most important global meeting of local and regional governments, that took place in the Chinese city of Hangzhou and which was attended by more than 1,000 authorities.

At the meeting, the Mayor of Bilbao participated in several talks, including the opening talk where he gave the conclusions of the study carried out by the Digital and Knowledge based Cities Committee, in which 20 cities participated and which gathers together the strategies and the projects which are being implemented world-wide to advance in the key aspects that go to make up an intelligent city. Aburto presented what has been done and what is being done in the development of Bilbao as an outstanding intelligent city. He highlighted, among other elements, the Zorrotzaurre as an ‘island of talent’ project as it brings together, training, entrepreneurship and advanced industries.

Juan Mari Aburto has also been elected to form part of the new World Council of this global network.
