A website created by ZAWP brings together visual recollections of Zorrotzaurre as it used to be

12/04/2019

ZAWP (Zorrotzaurre Art Workin Progress) has created a website (https://memoriaurbana.net/) which brings together reminders of what Zorrotzaurre was once like.

This website aims to show information about the district’s social and economic cycles through images and interviews with neighbours and people who worked in companies on the island, in order to paint a picture of the social and architectural transformation the area underwent during the 20th century.

In short, the goal is to create a collective recollection built through memories of the lives of some of its neighbours and certain workers.  The website provides information about the town-planning development on the island, but it focuses, above all, on offering data and testimonies of people, businesses and legendary stores in the district and todo so, it uses individualised explanatory texts, photographs and video-graphic documents.

Likewise, it indicates the exact location of the different places and entities mentioned on the website by links to Google maps. The web also offers details of routes that can be taken around the district, tours through past major companies in the area, as well as memories narrated by the residents themselves.

The documentation brought together on the website is rounded up with detailed plans of the island and a broad library of media references focussing largely on the documentaries, publications and press articles that have spotlighted the district.

The website is an unfinished project that aims to gradually become completed with new contributions reporting about people and businesses that will broaden the visual recollection of this district.
