A new international prize for Zaha Hadid, designer of the Zorrotzaurre Master Plan
Zaha Hadid, designer of the Zorrotzaurre Master Plan has been awarded the Royal Gold Medal for 2016 of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the most prestigious architectural prize in the United Kingdom. She is, as well, the first woman winner of the prize. This is one more of the many prizes, including in 2004 the Pritzker (considered the ‘Nobel’ of architecture), won by the anglo-iraqi architect during her career.

The demolition of five unoccupied Mefesa buildings underway
The Zorrotzaurre Contracting Board has commenced the demolition this week of five unoccupied buildings that belonged to the company Mefesa. The buildings housed installations for the manufacture of hard metal alloys. Two other Mefesa buildings (the laboratory and the offices) have been preserved and will house services in the future. The demolition, which is being carried out under the most complete waste management protocols, will free up 11,620m2 of land for future construction as defined in the Special Plan for the area. The opening of the Frank Gehry bridge
This morning, in a ceremony presided over by the mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto and the Basque Government Minister for Employment and Social Policy, Angel Toña, the official inauguration and pedestrian opening of the Frank Gehry bridge took place. The construction of the bridge was financed by the Zorrotzaurre Contracting Board. The opening of the bridge will help the neighbours of Zorrotzaurre and the employees of the companies located there to avoid the walk that starts and ends on the roundabout where the Euskalduna bridge terminates.
