Bilbao City Hall will rehabilitate the Beta 2 Building to house the As Fabrik project

Bilbao City Hall has approved the file to contract out the reform works to be undertaken on the Beta 2 Building, which will house the As Fabrik project, with a budget of €6,578,234.50 and a 10 month implementation period.

Beta 2 is one of the industrial buildings which the Special Plan anticipates conserving and rehabilitating. It is situated in calle Olagorta and has a footage of some 10,000 m2.

The rehabilitation construction project includes reforming the building, both inside and out, putting in large windows, together with urbanisation of the approaches to the property.

These works will largely be funded by the European Regional Development Fund, ERDF (some €4.6 million), while the rest will be financed by the City Authorities and strategic partners in the project.

As Fabrik is a project led by Bilbao City Hall and co-funded by the European Commission through its ERDF programme, after having been selected as an Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) project.

The Project aims to promote advanced services for industry 4.0and the digital economy by consolidating Zorrotzaurre as an innovation-nurturing ecosystem.

In addition to City Hall itself through the municipal company Bilbao Ekintza, this initiative involves strategic partners, such as Mondragon Corporation,  Mondragon University, MIK, Orkestra, GAIA, IDOM  and EIKEN.
