Zaha Hadid, the architect who designed the Zorrotzaurre Master Plan dies
Victim of a heart attack, the 65 year-old iraqi-born British architect Zaha Hadid, died today in Miami. Zaha Hadid, Pritzker Prize winner in 2004 was the designer of, among many other prestigious works, the Zorrotzaurre Master Plan, both the 2004 original version and the review and up-date of 2007 which included the opening up of the Deusto canal to turn the Zorrotzaurre peninsula into an island. Her talent and creativity have been fundamental in the design of an integral and sustainable plan that converts a degraded part of Bilbao into a new quarter full of economic and social development possibilities.

Second anniversary of the death of Iñaki Azkuna, the leading promotor of the Zorrotzaurre project
Today is the second anniversary of the death of Iñaki Azkuna, Mayor of Bilbao, and among other positions, Chairman of the Management Commision of Zorrotzaurre. Iñaki Azkuna was a fundamental protagonist in the urban renovation process of Zorrotzaurre. He promoted and united political, economic and social efforts to make possible the transformation of this rundown neighbourhood into a new economic and social space in Bilbao.

A delegation of Danish architects visits Bilbao to get to know, among other milestones, the Zorrotzaurre urban transformation project
A Danish delegation visited Bilbao this week to study the good practices applied in urban development, governance and sustainability. With 24 members, the delegation from Dansk Arkitektur Center undertook the study trip under the three year ‘Stategic Urban Governance’ master run by the centre and which focuses on urban management and sustainability. The participants are fundamentally CEOs and managers of Danish cities. This is the third year that they have chosen Bilbao as the destination for the study trip.
