Ninth anniversary of the first demolitions in Zorrotzaurre

Today is the ninth anniversary of the start of the first demolitions of unoccupied industrial buildings in Zorrotzaurre.

This involved the demolition of eight port warehouses in Botica Vieja freeing up 10,700m2 of land for the future opening up of the Deusto Canal and the construction of the new IMQ private hospital.

The then Mayor of Bilbao, Iñaki Azkuna, presided over the operations.

Since then, a dozen of demolitions of unoccupied industrial warehouses, both publicly and privately-owned, have been carried out, freeing up 95,000m2 for the future activities defined under the Special Plan for the different areas.
