One year since the Frank Gehry Bridge opened to traffic

19/01/2017

Today is the first anniversary (19.01.16) of the opening of the Frank Gehry Bridge to traffic. From its official inauguration four months earlier (19.09.15) to that day, the bridge was only open to pedestrians using the sidewalks.

The bridge, the first of three scheduled to be built for the Zorrotzaurre urban regeneration project, connects calle Julio Urquijo  with the future island.

Designed by the engineers, Guillermo Capellán and Hector Beade, the bridge is 75 metres long with an average width of 28 metres. It is the first bridge in Bilbao illuminated with LED technology.

The construction costs, of 5.7 million euros, were paid by the Zorrotzaurre Contracting Board.
