The European Regional Development Fund grants 9.3 million euros for sustainable development projects in Zorrotzaurre

04/10/2016

The Official State Gazette published last Monday, a resolution of the Finance and Public Administrations Ministry informing of the concession of support from the first round of investment by the ERDF 2014-2020 for integrated sustainable urban development projects.

Among the grants awarded are 9.289 million euros for this type of projects to be carried out under the renewal activities in Zorrotzaurre.

The approved Zorrotzaurre plan, jointly drawn up by the Bilbao City Hall, the Management Commission and Surbisa, the city hall-owned company has a budget of 53.6 million euros and will run for the period 2016 – 2020.

It is structured to achieve four thematic objectives: improve access to, the use of and location of information and communication technologies, favour the transition to a low carbon economy, environmental conservation and protection as well as promoting social reinsertion and the fight against poverty.

These four blocks have, in turn, been subdivided into 10 lines of action (among them, the production of renewable energy, the extension of pedestrian and cycle paths to reduce CO2 emissions, recycling rainwater, the clean up of contaminated soil or the conservation of historic industrial and cultural buildings), which will be looked on as a reference for other future projects to be developed over the next few years in Zorrotzaurre.
