The Port of Bilbao awards the contract for implementing the infills on the left bank of Deusto canal

The board of directors of the Bilbao Port Authority (APB) has awarded the temporary joint venture formed by AccionaConstrucción S.A. and Altuna y Uria S.A. the contract to carry out the infill work on the left bank of Deusto canal.

The project consists of filling in a fringe of the canal on public land assigned to the  APB, to adapt it to the design stipulated in the Zorrotzaurre Special City Land-use Plan, thus lending continuity to the new bankside wharf executed with the opening of the Deusto canal.

Implementation of the infill work will lead to almost 50.000 m2 of land being gained which will form part Zorrotzaurre Integrated Action Plan 2.

Once the land has been recovered, Bilbao Port Authority will make it over to the entity awarded ownership and from that moment onwards, its urban development will kick off. The project anticipates many open spaces and equipment facilities be included all long the canal, thus completing a 2,350-metre pedestrian footpath.This development also includes six residential plots with 12 blocks of unsubsidised and public subsidised housing under different schemes.

The implementation period anticipated for the infill works is 22 months and they are expected to have begun by August.
